Built between the
16th and 17th centuries, probably adapting a more modest medioeval structure, the Villa belonged to the Strozzi family of Florence from the early 16th
century. For example, Piero, head of the anti-Medici
uprising of 1537, lived there.
It was modernized
around 1742 when the appearance of the visible façade was probably defined, and
then again at the end of the century and in the nineteenth century.
Passed from heir to
heir to the present day, it has never been put up for sale, although since 1963
the male line of this branch has become extinct. The Florentine family of the Strozzi princes remained owners until 1965 when the last Strozzi, Roberto’s wife who died in 1963, bequeathed it to
Cristina and Vittorio Pancrazi.
Set back from the
road axis, it has a gravel access avenue that cuts the lawn into a spectacular
hemicycle with horse chestnuts along the boundary wall.
The main façade shows
three floors and seven axes, with a central body characterized by a double ramp
staircase and a columbaria tower. On the sides there
are two lower wings, intended for servants and farm services areas. Nearby is
an oratory dedicated to Saint Lucia, decorated internally with nineteenth-century
squares, a stucco altar with a kiosk and a wall painting with the holy holder referable
to the Antonio Marini from Prato (first half of the 19th century).
Upstream is a
simpler façade, which preserves a late sixteenth-century appearance, arranged
on six axes with windows on the noble floor from the windows wills supported by
corbels with volute; only the eighteenth century portal is later.
Inside, in the basement,
there is a large 16th century fireplace with Strozzi
arms. The noble floor is accessed by a double ramp
staircase, which leads to a large hall overlooked by rooms decorated in the early
nineteenth century with grotesque, putti and fake architecture.
In the garden there
are large flowerbeds armoring linden and oak trees, with gentle slope.
